Engineering hybridomas to express other proteins instead

As an add-on to my earlier post on the use of hybridomas to generate a diversity of antibodies, I was wondering if the gene encoding other proteins and enzymes can be introduced into the hybridoma's genome, replacing the gene that encodes the antibody so that the precious protein can be produced in large quantities.

Dear Mr Philip Yeo:

This was one of my earlier doodles. I had a more radical suggested approach actually in producing precious proteins accessible at
http://socrates-reincarnated.blogspot.com/2007/03/potentially-radical-new-approach-to.html.

Be that as it may, I am open to your chaps visiting this little tavern for a great round of discussion. Free flow of beverages awaits. I am grateful for your efforts in helping me to get in contact with your chaps.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Dee
